We Care About Mutitjulu

Since the filming of this documentary the scourge of petrol sniffing has been eliminated from the Mutitjulu community. Two key forces were at work to achieve this result:

1. The practice of petrol sniffing was made illegal and,
2. The community met with the oil companies and the government to introduce Opal Fuel into the region. Opal Fuel does not hold the addictive agent which creates the ‘high’ for petrol sniffers.

This wonderful outcome is a key example of how things can improve for Aboriginal people when caring and dedicated non-Indigenous and Indigenous people come together with a ‘desire’ to make things ‘better’.
